Hi babe, welcome to another edition of PRAGMA with Meghan Rose where we talk all things Astrology and relationships. This time around, I wanted to bring you some insights into the month ahead and some reflections on my Saturn return and what the current times are trying to teach us with Saturn in Pisces. Saturn Return Reflections

August has always felt like a somber time of the year for me. As a Virgo sun, it means my solar return is approaching, and marks the last full month as whatever age I am. I’ve never bought into the ageist agenda that’s force-fed to women until my Saturn return hit (currently in the midst of it) where I notice myself in social settings surrounded by people younger than I am, and baffled when they tell me that they’re somewhere between 2-10 years younger than I am… or waiting in line at customs in Mexico a few weekends ago behind a group of boys with mullet-cuts who all had tattoos of their birth year, ranging from 2002 to 2004 on various areas of exposed skin. I stood in shock as I realized that they did not have to have these done - illegally and underaged - in someone’s garage.

But alas, that is what happens during a Saturn return; you leave behind the chapter of childhood and finally step with both feet into the chapter of adulthood if it’s your first - and hopefully do this with some air of grace. My Saturn in Pisces falls in my 11th house of hopes & dreams, friendships, community, and social responsibility. I’ve recognized how I need to let go of feeling like the black sheep and embrace my role as a floater, someone who thrives in intimate 1-on-1 friendships, and someone who also genuinely enjoys spending time alone. As an only child, I found myself feeling like the ugly duckling in big friend groups for most of my life. Fitting really after being cast as the ugly duckling in our 2nd grade play - who, I may add, ends up becoming a swan! The jokes that the universe plays are endless if you look for them. But truly, most of the times that I have tried to participate in friend groups it has turned into more of a “learning lesson” than a life-long gaggle of sisters.

I remember my mom used to pluck me out of class during my fifth grade year at least once a month just to drive me to some new Montessori school so I could see if that might be a better fit than the constant tears and bullying at my public central school. On more than one occasion, she and four of the other girl’s mothers would have to go sit with our principal for an afternoon as she told them “I don’t know what to do anymore. We’ve never had such a cliquey class before. This really needs to stop!”.

I used to find myself through elementary, middle, and high school struggling to “fit in” to groups of girlfriends. This followed when I worked a full-time job and commuted to my college classes, and even into the chapter of my early adulthood when I found myself a part of a group of friends who I didn’t share many interests with. I could always sniff out spaces where I would be the “stop! that’s mean, guys!” member of the wanna-be popular girls who really just struggled with deep insecurities. But the lesson that comes from this Saturn return in Pisces in my eleventh house? So did I, just in a very different way. Why else would you try to force people who you don’t really like (as people) into liking you?

But you have to remember that we are all genetically wired as human beings to crave connection and community as a form of protection from the wild unknown. Evolutionary biologists have even found the correlation between budding friendships and longer life spans, more frequent releases of oxytocin, and even a correlation between our pain tolerance and how large our social circle is - insinuating that there are neurobiological ways to predict the way that humans will interact with one another. But at what cost is it to you to commit to the wrong friends? My main focus through my Saturn return has been to fight against the neural pathways that I have packed down into place in the past and find solace in the human condition of birth and rebirth; realizing I am not a victim to the changes that have taken place or the situations I have put myself into in my life.

Instead, I spent a good hour yesterday re-writing the way that I tell my life story through the lens of optimism and empowerment… and guess what? The plot points didn’t change, but my perspective did, entirely. I wrote about how I always had people around me who weren’t related to me who loved to take care of me. They loved me without any obligation to love me. I wrote about how my school pushed me to my intellectual and creative edges and encouraged me to see “more” for myself. I wrote about all of the memories, laughs, and lessons I took away from each friendship I have had and held at some point or another in my life. I wrote about how fortunate I am to have a job that I love and get paid to learn about, share, and speak about my passions. I’ve felt 10 pounds lighter all morning.

I’m not on the “self-help” train of 2016-2020 anymore - far from it. In fact I’ve been loving reading a new fiction book every couple of weeks, watching reality TV, checking off movies from my ‘to watch’ list, walking every morning, and stepping away from treating myself like a project. But I did watch this TED talk that encouraged me to change my narrative and wanted to share it (even if the term “Ted Talk” makes you cringe, too) in case it helps even just one of you see yourselves and your story a little bit differently.

Even if you are nowhere near a Saturn Return’s calls and lessons, I think it’s important for you to look at where the current Saturn in Pisces (at 18-degrees) is landing in your chart. See what house is being illuminated by this introspective, spiritual, romanticized energy. Is there anything that might be asking you to forgive, rework, or redefine about your own life?

Now onto the fun stuff…

August 2024 Forecast: The Dates to Watch For

August is bringing us a major opportunity to step outside of our shells and realize the power we have when we take up space unapologetically. Alas, my Virgo heart still flutters at the idea of *everyone* catching the train of organization when Virgo season starts on August 22. Thinking about everyone entering into the month feeling prepared and organized is a dream to me! Below, the signs *most* affected by each transit are going to be listed, but I like to describe each transit like riding the same wave in the ocean as everyone else… If your sign (sun/moon/rising) isn’t listed on a transit, that doesn’t mean you won’t feel it, the edges are just a little weaker than the epicenter of the wave! A.K.A. we will all feel these shifts, but some more than others. Read below for your rising sign (sun secondarily) for the most accurate insights — and let’s ride August’s waves as one.

  • August 4: New Moon in Leo

    • This New Moon is going to give you an opportunity to set the stage (maybe even literally) in your life. The more “YOU” that you are, the better your life will be. When you take up space, share your gifts, stand up for what you believe in, and share your honest truth with the world around you, not only do you benefit, but you will see how everyone else around you does as well. You can anticipate feeling separation from the wrong people/places/opportunities during this time as the garden of your life starts to make way for the proper seeds of intention to be planted in your life’s fertile soil. In due time (with this moon being ruled by fast & fiery Leo, not too much time) all of the aligned friendships, relationships, opportunities, and experiences in your life will start to come to fruition. Try to get outside during the day if you have a chance to sit with Leo’s ruler, the sun, and listen to what he’s trying to share with you. Where are you holding back in your life? Feel free to write that down and burn it. Utilize fire energy as much as you can this day through: rituals with fire (burning lists, etc.), lighting candles, cooking, welding, and practicing with your spirituality (as this area of life is ruled by fire).

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Leo, Taurus, Aquarius & Scorpio placements

  • August 4: Venus enters Virgo

    • On the same day as the New Moon in Leo, we have Venus (the planet of love, sex, beauty, money, and desire) entering into thoughtful and intentional Virgo. This earthly energy will encourage us to magnetize what we want in life through a discerning and perfected eye. Try to align with Virgo’s energy during this transit by raising your standards, practicing healthy routines, being good to your body, organizing your home, cleaning out your closet, helping others, and being outdoors. You will start to see that the more organized, intentional, and ritualistic your life is during this time, the more easily you will attract the kind of love, affection, attention, and blessings that you want — with ease! Virgo’s energy is known to work smarter, not harder — so to have this influence over the planet of desire for a bit? You won’t be begging for anything or anyone if you can behave like the prize that you are!

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces placements

  • August 5: Mercury Rx in Virgo

    • Mercury retrograde begins in its home sign of Virgo just one day after our New Moon, reminding us that the day that we plant the seed is not the same day that we enjoy the fruit. You have to be willing to sit back, let others behave the way that they are naturally inclined, and take that behavior as a data point. Virgo (in its highest form) is meticulous, calculating, and analytical. It loves to observe. So do just that during the retrograde - sit back and observe the way that others behave (online, on dates, when they’re with you, when they’re away from, when they think no one’s watching) and react accordingly. I find it much more affective to tell someone that their behavior is a turn off to me if I want them to act right than trying to lay out a playbook for them and control the way they walk through life. Getting what you want just because you spelled it out for someone isn’t much fun anyways. The retrograde will teach you just that — you are only in control of yourself, your actions, and your reactions.

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces placements

  • August 14: Mercury Rx enters Leo

    • The retrograde then shifts from Virgo to fiery Leo on August 14. This changes the energy of this period of reflection, reaction, and recalibration into one of self-prioritization and self-importance. This will offer you a chance to take a breather, reevaluate how you are treating yourself and whether or not the company you keep aligns with your sense of self. It will be important to not take swift action during this time and instead allow yourself to sit in the discomfort for long enough to decide on how you want to move, going forward. Reminder: it’s not that you can’t take action during retrogrades, it’s that you need to think and reflect heavily before doing so, so your decisions don’t come back to bite you later on.

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Leo, Taurus, Aquarius & Scorpio placements

  • August 19: Full Moon in Aquarius

    • With a Full Moon in Aquarius opposing the Leo sun, all while the Mercury Rx in Leo is happening, this Full Moon might illuminate things in your life that make you feel like an outcast or outsider. Aquarius’ energy is known for “thinking outside of the box”, but what is it exactly that the person outside of the box is thinking? It will be important to reflect on what’s being brought to light in your life during this time. For better insights into the theme of the Full Moon for you, look at where Aquarius at 27-degrees falls in your birth chart. Which house is having a light shined in on it? Is this an area of your life that you could separate from “group-thought” and start paving your own way? If so, now will be the time to start shifting your focus in that direction.

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Leo, Taurus, Aquarius & Scorpio placements

  • August 19: Jupiter in Gemini square Saturn in Pisces

    • With the planet of expansion, luck, and optimism making a square to the planet of karma, lessons, and discipline, there is bound to be criticism and tension both internally and externally. Society at large is going to feel a push to fight with oppressive forces and ultimately cause a ruckus if it means getting to move forward in the right way. Jupiter’s influence tends to be grandiose and slightly unhinged, but when put up against big daddy Saturn, it’s almost like an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object — who will come out victorious? I see an underdog story being born…

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces placements

  • August 22: Sun enters Virgo, Virgo season begins!

    • Virgo season is a time for us to reflect. It is harvest season. What we have done, and the seeds we have sown for the entirety of the year leading up to this moment will be sprouting for us to enjoy. Because we are still in Merucury retrograde period for the first few days of this new season, I highly recommend taking the “high road” with Virgo’s energy: committing to healthy routines and rituals, being intentional with your time and energy, nourishing mind, body & spirit, and analyzing the information that is coming your way — but also being cognizant of what information you are intaking. Do not allow yourself to be fooled by the outside world at this time. Instead, it’s okay to go into Virgo’s natural “Hermit mode” if you’re feeling misaligned or overstimulated by outside forces. Give yourself permission to unplug, disconnect from who and what does not fit, and go inward through meditation, journaling, and spending time in nature. This is the season to heal, relax, and enjoy the peace you’ve created (or become aware of where you need to do so).

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces placements

  • August 28 - Mercury Rx ends, stations direct in Leo

    • Hurrah! Clarity comes back as Mercury retrograde ends and stations direct in bold, fiery Leo. You will notice that you are feeling more called to communicate with the right people and come out of hiding during this time. Sharing your thoughts, projects, and opinions with others will be highly favored so long as you are doing so from a confident and self-aware space.

    • Who will feel this the most? Those with Leo, Taurus, Aquarius & Scorpio placements

  • August 29 - Venus enters Libra

    • We end August with a fun and flirtatious shift of Venus (the planet of love, sex, beauty, money, and desire) entering aligned and divine air sign, Libra. This energy will be more about banter, aesthetics, “doing things for the plot”, and taking peace into consideration. You will be less inclined to make a plan and more activated by the quick-wit and enjoyment you receive from people, places, things, and opportunities outside of yourself. You will magnetize what you desire by romanticizing the situation, flirting with life, and thinking positively. You are what you believe during this time, so believe highly of yourself, your life, and your future in order to attain what you want!
